For decades, Alpine Village in Torrance and Old World Village in Huntington Beach held the only Oktoberfest celebrations in the greater Los Angeles area. Today, however, there seem to be dozens of choices, including a vegan option in Santa Monica.
I’ve been invited to photograph LA Oktoberfest, held this past weekend at the Beverly Hills Country Club. It’s a relatively small event with VIPs arriving an hour before the general public. It’s also challenging to hold a stein in one hand and a camera in another, but one learns to adapt. Along with a variety of German and Austrian beers, hot dogs, sausages and pretzels are also available to pad the stomach for more beer.
