October Read: The Way of Herodotus

This week’s read: The Way of Herodotus: Travels with the Man who Invented History by Justin Marozzi, who attempts to follow in Herodotus’ footsteps in Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, and Greece a few millennia later. Early on he makes the case that Herodotus was the world’s first historian, first foreign correspondent, first anthropologist, first travel writer and first investigative journalist, as well as the man who “invented the West.”  Favorite quote: “History rumbles on like an insatiable omnivore, devouring everything before it.” Read more about or purchase at Amazon.
