This week’s read: A Lesser Photographer: Escape the Gear Trap and Focus on What Matters by CJ Chilvers. By “lesser” Chilvers means less gear, but also less anxiety and fear. I agree with most of what he writes here. After all, I spent a month in Southern Africa last year with only one camera and two lenses and I often shoot in studio with just one camera and one lens. However, I do disagree with a few points. His argument that “fine art” photography is an art-world construct and that shapshots are equivalent seems fallacious to me. I also don’t agree with his notion of not having a portfolio, though I would argue that most portfolios should contain fewer photos. Read more about or purchase at Amazon.
