This week’s read: Tape for the Turn of the Year by A. R. Ammons. The book-length poem was written on a single, continuous piece of adding machine tape from December 6th, 1963 to January 10th, 1964 with minimal editing. The poem is broken into sections consisting of the day that part was written. I decided to read it as it was written, reading “December 6” on December 6, and so on. Some serendipity occurred reading it this way—December 13 was written and read on a Friday the 13th, for instance. The poem itself is wide-ranging in topic and gravity, with my favorite passage posted below from “December 22.” Read more about or purchase at Amazon.
