A Tale of Three Book Covers (3 of 3)

The covers of each of my travel books feature original photographs of my own with some text designed by the publisher. I thought I’d share some insights into how all three came about.

The cover for my most recent book, On to Plan C: A Return to Travel, was the most challenging of the three to come up with. It probably didn’t help that this was the fourth title I had for the book and had only come up with it while working on the final chapter. As the previous book had included the cover of a travel journal, this time I decided include the interior of one. The previous two covers included a map as the background, so I wanted to switch things up this time, which is why I included the laptop the book was written on.

This photo was also taken using the Nikon Z6, this time with the Nikkor 24-70mm f/4 lens at 70mm and f/8 with natural lighting. Below is what I submitted to the publisher (left) and the final book cover that we agreed upon (right). We took a risk with this cover as the title isn’t revealed until the book is opened.
