The Wishing Shelf (https://www.thewsa.co.uk/) has given my new book, Around the World in Eighty Photos, a five-star review:
I must say, I very much enjoyed this trip Around the World in Eighty Photos. Written and photographed by Jeremiah A. Gilbert, it offers readers a ‘visual’ insight into a vast array of lands, from Easter Island (which I personally visited back in 1999) to Mexico City, to Stockholm, Sweden (where I was born; I know The Old Town well) to Cape Town, South Africa. The author is a well-travelled man!
There were a number of elements to this book I particularly enjoyed. Firstly, the photography is top notch. The lighting is excellent, every image is crisp, and I loved the range; you just never know what’s coming next! Secondly, I loved how the author didn’t focus on what a typical sightseer might focus on. So, for example, the Stockholm picture is not of the palace but of a cobblestone alleyway, which is far more interesting. And, thirdly, I liked how the author offers the reader a little background to ever shot – how he composed it; even the shutter speed and ISO, brightening or darkening the picture.
So, who is this book for? I suspect travellers will find it interesting. It’s not in depth in any way, but it offers a snapshot of the city or the country, which might wet the prospective traveler’s appetite for adventure! I also think avid photographers will find it a fun read – amateurs in particular. I think they’ll find it inspiring, and the accompanying text helpful.
All in all, it was thoroughly enjoyable. — A “Wishing Shelf” Book Review
