Indio Art (1 of 3)

Indio, California has developed a vibrant public mural scene that reflects the city’s agricultural roots, multicultural heritage, and contemporary creative energy. Downtown and Old Town Indio feature large-scale community murals depicting local history, desert life, and Coachella Valley culture, many commissioned through the Indio Public Arts Commission. Projects such as “Happy Alley” on Miles Avenue add a playful, immersive element with bright designs and interactive, glow-in-the-dark features that encourage foot traffic and downtown exploration. Indio’s sculpture program complements its murals by placing large, contemporary works in prominent public spaces. Along Highway 111, stainless steel sculptures serve as gateway markers to the city, while downtown hosts the towering “Colossal Cacti” installations originally created for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, now repurposed as permanent landmarks.
