Indio Art (3 of 3)

Sarbalé Ke is a large-scale art and architectural installation by Diébédo Francis Kéré, created for the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Its name means the House of Celebration in the Mooré language of Burkina Faso, Kéré’s birthplace, and the work was inspired by the baobab tree—a culturally significant symbol in West African communities that serves as a gathering place for people, offering shade, sustenance, and a site for social connection. The installation comprises 12 towering, cone-like structures arranged in a radial, village-like composition, with three central baobab forms creating the largest communal space and additional smaller towers forming more intimate areas for visitors to explore.
