2015 Re-edits: Souq Waqif, Doha, Qatar

Asia, International Travel, Photography

I enjoy re-editing older photos. One, I hope I’ve gained some skills I didn’t possess when I originally edited the photos. Second, it gives me a chance to go back through the originals and see if I spot something I missed the first time around. In this case, I had edited this one before in black & white, though with a different program and in a different aspect ratio.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the main mosque in the Sultanate of Oman, located in the capital city of Muscat. In 1992, Sultan Qaboos directed that his country should have a Grand Mosque and its construction began in 1995. The mosque is built from 300,000 tons of Indian sandstone, with a total capacity of up to 20,000 worshipers, making it the fourth largest in the world. The newly built Grand Mosque was inaugurated by the Sultan of Oman in May 2001.

Muttrah Souk, Muscat, Oman

Asia, International Travel, Photography, Travel

The Muttrah Souq is perhaps one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arab world. It is located adjacent to Muscat harbor and has seen immense trade in the age of sailing as it is strategically located on the way to India and China. There are some antique shops selling a mixture of Indian and Omani artifacts along with the usual textile, hardware and gold shops. Bargaining is expected, though any discount will be small.
