Philippines — Tam-an Village

Tam-an is a typical Northern Philippines village situated 240 steps down from the Banaue Hotel’s swimming pool. Here woodcarvings and hand woven products are sold to travelers. It is also known for displaying the bones of the villagers’ ancestors. When my wife was asked if she wanted to see the bones of a villager’s aunt, she declined. The villager seemed perplexed and replied, “There is no flesh on it, ma’am” My wife still declined.
