We’ve come to Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD) as part of a half-day Raffles tour, which includes Raffles Landing Site and high tea at the Raffles Hotel (as it is our wedding anniversary). One does not come to Singapore without encountering Stamford Raffles, founded of the city (and also of the London Zoo). One finds his name everywhere in Singapore, even when the connection is remote or nonexistent.
Our tour also includes a cruise along the Singapore River to Clarke Quay, named after Sir Andrew Clarke, Singapore’s second Governor. This is a good way to see the major business hub of the city, relaxed in a bumboat rather than caught in traffic.
