Old San Juan was built in the 1500’s by conquistadors and was once the home to gangsters and drug dealers. Today, its colonial buildings and narrow cobblestone streets are filled with trendy restaurants, boutique hotels and bars serving watermelon sangria. This is especially true of SoFo (South of Fortaleza), where we explore a bit after lunch.
On our way north, we come across the Casino of Puerto Rico, which was built just before World War I. The exterior is in the style of French mansions of the Louis XVI era and features a copper cupola.
