Armenia — South of Yerevan (Khor Virab Monastery)

South of Yerevan through the plains of Ararat one finds Khor Virab Monastery. It was here that St. Gregory was kept in a snake pit for 12 years before curing King Trdat III of insanity, resulting in the king’s (and then the country’s) conversion to Christianity. Northeast of the monastery is a lookout point offering some elevated views. This is followed by Noravank Monastery, situated on the hill of a twisted gorge. Lunch is a picnic in a nearby cave, where I snap a few photos of the surrounding area.
