About an hour’s drive south of Baku, there are dozens of so called “mud volcanoes” no more than a few feet high. Mud volcanoes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but those most common in Azerbaijan have several small cones, or vents, up to about four meters in height. The cones emit cold mud, water and gas almost continually, a strangely beautiful sight.
