Mostar is the biggest and the most important city in the Herzegovina region. Between 1992 and 1993, after Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia, the town was subject to an 18-month siege and there are still signs of this attack around, including wreckage on display with “Remember” painted beneath it. Its famous Old Bridge was completely destroyed, though it has been reconstructed.
