Of tectonic origin, Lake Nicaragua is the largest lake in Central America, the 9th largest in the Americas, and the 19th largest lake in the world (by area). It is home to hundreds of small islands, many of which are inhabited. We spend a morning here sailing to a private island, where we lounge about on the beach while my wife fends off the owner’s pet monkey.
