León is the second largest city in Nicaragua, after Managua. It was founded by the Spanish as León Santiago de los Caballeros and rivals Granada in the number of historic Spanish colonial churches, secular buildings, and private residences. León is certainly less touristy than Granada, its lanes narrower and quieter. That isn’t to say that an excellent coffee experience couldn’t be found a few blocks from our hotel, El Convento, where I could have easily spent a few days just soaking in its courtyard and tranquility.
