The drummer of my favorite band, Rush, has died. He was 67 and quietly battling brain cancer for the past three-and-a-half years. Back in 2004, his wife, photographer Carrie Nuttall, released a collection of photos of Neil, a notoriously private person. There is an intimacy to these images to be sure, but I particularly love how she focused on little details, such as his hands or shoes or a pile of broken drumsticks. I’m sharing a few of my favorites from this collection, entitled Rhythm & Light, as I digest his passing. I wrote a little about Neil’s lyrical influence on my travels here.
