Cotacachi is an artisan city that is famous for its leather goods and handicrafts, located 8 km (5 miles) northwest of Otavalo. The city was designated a Pueblo Mágico (magical town) by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism in 2019. It also holds a UNESCO medal for being free of illiteracy.
