Nordic Cruise Challenges (1 of 5)

As we’ve now returned from our cruise consisting of Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands and Shetland, along with ports in Norway and Sweden, I thought I’d share a few of the challenges of cruising in this part of the world.

Challenge #1 – Time Zones

In all we experienced six time zones during this cruise. From Iceland to Greenland, we gained two hours. We then lost three hours going from Greenland to the Faroe Islands and Shetland, and then another hour was lost to Norway. Good thing I travel with an analog watch.

Note: Iceland observes Greenwich Mean Time all year, meaning there is no Daylight Saving Time unlike in the rest of Europe. Travel here in winter and it’d be three hours difference between Iceland and Greenland.
