Tambomachay is an ancient Inca archaeological site near Cusco, Peru, renowned for its remarkably engineered stone water channels, ceremonial fountains, and connection to the sacred role of water in Inca culture. The name is commonly translated as “Place of Rest,” although interpretations vary. The site may have functioned as a royal retreat or bathing complex for the Inca ruler and nobility. It may also have served as a ceremonial center dedicated to water, or as part of the network of sites protecting approaches to Cusco.
