Cusco is one of South America’s most remarkable historic cities. Located high in the Andes at roughly 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) above sea level, Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire and today serves as the principal gateway to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. Cusco was the political, religious, and administrative heart of the Inca Empire, which expanded dramatically across the Andes during the 15th and early 16th centuries. The Incas regarded Cusco as the symbolic center of their world, reflected in the Quechua name Qosqo meaning “center of the universe.”All photos created using the Nikon Z8 with the Nikkor 14-30mm f/4 or 24-200mm f/4 lens.
