Netherlands (2012) – Amsterdam (2 of 3)

Amsterdam is an easy city to explore on foot as distances are short and the walk is broken up by canals. The city’s three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings. And have I mentioned the bicycles? Figuring it would be nearly impossible not to have them in a fair percentage of my photos, I decide early on to make them a focal point, trying to find creative ways to capture them as they lay about the city. One just needs to remember to stay vigilant and not be run over while composing a shot.
