Marsaxlokk is a picturesque fishing village on the southeastern coast of Malta that is famous for its colorful harbor, traditional fishing culture, and seafood restaurants. It has been inhabited since ancient times and served as an anchorage for the Phoenicians, as well as an important harbor during events such as the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The village is best known for its traditional fishing boats called luzzus, brightly painted wooden boats decorated with the “Eye of Osiris,” a symbol believed to provide protection at sea. The harbor lined with these boats has become one of Malta’s most iconic scenes.
